The goal for AMD is to release laptops that are just as powerful as they are thin using the U-series Ryzen processors, as well as performance-driven notebooks powered by beefier Ryzen 9 H and Ryzen 9 HS chips. A full range of chips was announced, from the low-end to the high, and they will begin showing up in laptops in the coming months from a range of manufacturers, with two of the first cited models being the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 and Asus Zephyrus G The Zen 3-based processor was previously believed to debut later this year, likely around the Computex trade show.
After rumors began circulating that the launch of Ryzen desktop processors may have been postponed to due to lack of competition from rival Intel in the enthusiast space, AMD denied those claims and offered clarification to its road map. For now, the new XT series serves as a stopgap to squeeze more life out of the series until Ryzen debuts later this year. Ryzen series CPUs, like Ryzen before them, will use a combination of two architectures throughout the range.
Cache will be reduced, however, and there is the possibility of additional memory latency due to an uncoupling of the infinity fabric with system memory. It drops the process node size from 12nm to 7nm and has a number of architectural efficiency improvements. Thanks to a 7nm design, AMD claims that it is able to reduce power consumption on active and idle modes.
Latency has also been lowered, so laptops benefit from faster boot time and snappier applications, along with better battery life. In early test results released by AMD, the Ryzen chip on a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 bested a comparable Intel Core iG7 system in web browsing and graphics activity, with battery life being comparable.
AMD may be working on optimizations for improved battery performance. If these benchmarks are accurate, this will be hugely beneficial to gamers on the go and creatives who need to use a mobile workstation while away from a power outlet.
The chip consumes just 35W of TDP. The H processor consumes a bit more power at 45 watts TDP, but this allows it to have a faster 3. The Ryzen mobile CPUs should see a significant performance uplift over their Ryzen counterparts.
That meant much greater consistency and frame rate stability. With multithreaded performance, the eight-core, threaded Ryzen design will give content creators serious power over laptops with a quad-core design. As a result, graphics clock speeds have been increased, going up to 1, MHz. Together, they should make Ryzen APUs great for entry-level gaming laptops. If the resolution was scaled down to p, frame rates improved for smoother performance.
On the desktop side, a leaked 3D Mark 11 benchmark of the Zen 2-based Ryzen processor based on the Renoir architecture was recently spotted, showing that the G processor score 5, points. The first release should be based around an architecture with Zen 2 cores. The early CPU sample had its processor cores clocked at 3. The similarities here could mean that the Ryzen Renoir design could ship with an 8 CU design with cores, Wccftech speculated, with the enhanced Vega chip giving it a graphics boost over the 12nm Ryzen G series.
In the specifications for the motherboard, Biostar stated that PCIe 4. A second desktop Ryzen release will feature an upgraded Zen 3 design known as Vermeer. Vermeer will be based on an entirely new architecture, according to AMD senior vice president Forrest Norrod. For the Zen 3-based Vermeer release, AMD is said to focus on three main features for its silicon: IPC gains, faster clock speeds, and higher efficiency.
And because of the new design, each core will have equal access to the cache on the same die, leading to more consistent performance. The AMD Ryzen processor supports an operating mode allowing enthusiast users to directly control the operating condition of the processor to precisely tune the performance and power consumption to the extent of their specific and unique system capabilities current and cooling and environmental conditions ambient temperature.

Providing everything is stable and temperatures are within the recommended values and no close to hitting the TJMax, everything should be good to go.

Ryzen is especially significant for AMD, since it is a completely new design, and marks the corporation's return to the high end desktop CPU market. AMD's competitor Intel had controlled this section of the market for almost ten years since the release of AMD's infamous Bulldozer microarchitecture in With AMD's initial regression in this market segment beginning even further back inwhen Intel released its groundbreaking Core microarchitecture. AMD officially announced a new series of processors, named "Ryzen" during its New Horizon summit on December 13, and introduced Ryzen series processors in Februaryfeaturing up to 8 cores and 16 threads, which launched on March 2, In the five years before the release of Ryzen, AMD's direct competitor in the x86 and x consumer-level CPU marketspace, Intelhad continued to grow its market share with the tick-tock improvement cycle of its Core series of microprocessors.
Ryzen is the consumer-level implementation of the newer Zen microarchitecturea complete redesign that marked the return of AMD to the high-end CPU market, offering a product stack able to compete with Intel at every level.
Threadripper, which is geared for high end desktops HEDTwasn't developed as part of a business plan or a specific roadmap; instead, a small enthusiast team inside AMD saw an opportunity that something could be developed between the Ryzen and Epyc CPU roadmaps that would put the crown of performance on AMD.
After some progress was made in their spare time, the project was greenlit and put in an official roadmap by CPU features table. APU features table. On September 20, AMD announced that third generation Ryzen Threadripper processors with core counts starting at 24 would be launched in November. The competing Intel Core iXE processor has only 18 cores and 36 threads. Another competitor, the workstation-oriented Intel Xeon W and WMhas 28 cores and 56 threads and were more expensive when launched. The 4- 6- and 8-core processors have one core chiplet. The and core processors have two core chiplets. The Threadripper and core processors have four core chiplets.
The core processor has eight core chiplets. The laptop to lead the charge to demonstrate Renoir was an Asus Zephyrus G14 . LPDDR4 dual-channel. The first Ryzen 7X, and X processors debuted in early March and were generally well received by hardware reviewers. It has been suggested that low threaded applications often result in Ryzen processors being underutilized, producing lower than expected benchmark scores, due to the fact that Zen relies on its core count to make up for its lower IPC rating than that of Kaby Lake. Windows Update blocks updates from being installed on newer systems running older versions of Windows, though that restriction can be circumvented with an unofficial patch. Although AMD initially announced that Ryzen chipset drivers would not be provided for Windows 7,  its chipset driver packages do in fact list and include them.
Full support for Ryzen processors' performance features in Linux requires kernel version 4. Like nearly all modern high performance microprocessors, Ryzen was susceptible to the "Spectre" vulnerabilities. The vulnerabilities can be mitigated without hardware changes via microcode updates and operating system workarounds, but the mitigations incur a performance penalty.
Launched inZen 2 includes hardware mitigations against the Spectre V4 speculative store bypass vulnerability. Some early shipments of Ryzen series processors produced segmentation faults on certain workloads on Linux, especially while compiling code with GCC. In earlyan Israeli cyber-security consultancy firm called CTS Labs stated that they had discovered several major flaws in the Ryzen components ecosystem,  publicly disclosing them after giving AMD 24 hours to respond and raising concerns and questions regarding their legitimacy,   though they were later confirmed by two separate security firms.

I'm not sure atleast yet if there is any possible way to undervolt without the need to have a unlocked bios. But I'd say it's a given there will be a u version, it's a direct replacement that doesn't need any engineering. I'm more annoyed by the fact that they have the gall to sell us the downgraded version at a premium. Should give a bit of better battery on power saving plan.
Or maybe just lower P2 frequency further. They changed some fundamental design with the mobile series. If you check the press slides they state that battery life goes from about 8 hours to 12 hours on comparable notebooks. That should actually make it competitive with intel offerings.
On Ubuntu it is possible to get 12 hours of battery life but you have to put it in MHz state lol. I bought the conductonaut but haven't been too tempted to apply the paste, as the temps rarely get hot and it's throttled at 65C. Also replaced the wifi card with the intel AC, makes downloads and streaming a bit more bearable.
Some users reported that the settings of RyzenAdj aren't constant. The power limits will be pulled back to 15W or some other values after some time. There must be something that is fighting against the RyzenAdj. Since I just figured out how to determine current settings just as what uProf did, I'll try to make RyzenAdj as a daemon running background and check the value frequently to see if it is changed by others, if so, then set it back to target value.
